Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Central Texas Model United Nations, Inc. ("we", "us", "our") handles information when you visit hobbyinterest.net (the "Site"). We are a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization in Austin, Texas, and we are the data controller for the Site.
The short version. The Site is a free library of articles. You do not need an account and we do not ask you for personal information to read anything, and we never sell your personal information for money. We do run Google Ads campaigns to bring people here, so every page carries a Google Ads tag that sets cookies, measures our campaigns and can add you to a remarketing audience. Articles also embed video and images from third parties that set their own cookies. Everything below explains that in full.
Information we collect
Information you give us
The only way to give us personal information through the Site is to write to us. If you email us or send us postal mail, we receive whatever you choose to include — typically your name, your email or postal address, and the contents of your message. We use it only to answer you.
The Site has no accounts, no logins, no newsletter sign-up, no comment system, no donation form and no checkout. We never ask for payment card details, government identifiers or health information, and you should not send them to us.
Information collected automatically
Like almost all websites, our hosting provider records standard server logs when a page is requested. These may include your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, your browser type and version, your operating system, and the referring page. Logs are used for security, abuse prevention and diagnosing faults, and are retained for a short period before deletion.
Analytics and advertising measurement
We use website measurement to see which articles people read and how they find them, so we can decide what to write and fix pages that are not working. This tells us about traffic patterns in aggregate; we do not use it to build profiles of individuals or to identify you.
We also run Google Ads campaigns to bring people to this library, and every page carries the
Google Ads tag (AW-606805053) so that Google can report how those campaigns
perform. On our home page, about page and
contact page, the tag additionally records a "conversion" when the page
loads — that is, it tells Google that somebody reached one of those pages. The tag also has
Google's remarketing features enabled, so your visit may add you to an audience list that we could
use to show you our ads elsewhere. No information you type is involved, because there is nothing on
this Site to type into.
Cookies and similar technologies
A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to store. We use them sparingly:
- Strictly necessary. Basic cookies needed to serve the Site securely and remember your display preference. These cannot be switched off.
- Analytics. Used to count visits and understand which pages are read.
- Advertising and remarketing. We run Google Ads campaigns to bring people to this library. The Google Ads tag on our pages sets cookies that let Google tell us when somebody who clicked one of our ads arrived here, and that can add you to a remarketing audience used to show you our ads on other sites. See the section below.
- Third-party embeds. Where an article embeds a video, the provider may set its own cookies once the embed loads. See the section below.
We do not display advertising on this Site, and we do not sell ad space, accept sponsorship or run affiliate links. The advertising cookies described above exist only so that we can measure our own outreach.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Blocking cookies will not stop you reading anything on the Site. Most browsers also offer a "Do Not Track" or Global Privacy Control signal; where we are legally required to honour such a signal, we do.
Third-party services
Some content is served from third parties, which means your browser contacts them directly and they receive your IP address and request information. Each has its own privacy policy, which governs what it does with that data:
- YouTube (Google LLC) — several articles embed instructional videos. Google may set cookies and collect viewing data when an embedded player loads or is played. See the Google Privacy Policy.

AW-606805053) runs on every page and records a page-load conversion on our home, about and contact pages, so that we can measure the performance of our public-education outreach. Remarketing and advertising-reporting features are enabled on this tag, so your visit may also add you to an audience list. Google receives your IP address, the page you are on, and cookie identifiers, and processes this as described in Google's business data policy and how Google uses data from sites that use its services. You can manage or switch off ad personalisation at adssettings.google.com, and opt out of Google Analytics measurement with the browser opt-out add-on. - Image and content delivery networks — article images are served from third-party CDNs. They receive your IP address in order to deliver the image.
- Our hosting provider — processes server logs on our behalf.
Articles also link out to research databases, health organisations, app stores and retailers. Following an external link takes you off this Site, and we are not responsible for those sites' privacy practices. None of our outbound links are affiliate or commission-earning links.
How we use information
We use information only to operate and improve the Site: to deliver pages, keep the Site secure, understand which articles are useful, answer your messages, and meet our legal obligations. We do not use it to make automated decisions about you and we do not profile you.
We do not sell your information
We do not sell personal information for money, and we do not trade, rent or licence it to anyone. We disclose information only to the service providers described above, where we are required to by law, or to protect our legal rights.
One point deserves to be spelled out rather than buried. Our Google Ads tag has Google's remarketing and advertising-reporting features switched on, which means that when you visit this Site your browser also contacts Google's advertising domains and you may be added to an audience list that could later be used to show you our ads elsewhere. We receive no money for this, but under the California and other US state privacy laws it may still count as "sharing" for cross-context behavioural advertising, or as a "sale", because those terms are defined broadly and do not require payment. If you would rather this did not happen, you can turn off ad personalisation at adssettings.google.com, block cookies in your browser, use a browser or extension that sends a Global Privacy Control signal, or write to us and we will action an opt-out request.
Children's privacy
The Site is intended for a general adult audience. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information. We honour these requests regardless of your location, so far as we are able.
If you are in the EEA or the UK
Under the GDPR and UK GDPR you may request access to, correction of, deletion of, or restriction of processing of your personal information; object to processing; and request data portability. Our lawful bases are our legitimate interests in operating and securing a public educational resource, your consent where you have given it, and compliance with legal obligations. You also have the right to complain to your local supervisory authority.
If you are in California
Under the CCPA/CPRA you may request to know what personal information we have collected, to have it deleted, to correct it, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. As stated above, we do not sell or share personal information.
Other US states
Residents of Texas, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and other states with comprehensive privacy laws have similar rights of access, correction, deletion and portability.
How to make a request
Email contact@foreigntalking.com with the subject line "Privacy Request", or write to us at the postal address below. We will respond within the time required by applicable law, generally within 30 to 45 days. We may need to ask you for information to verify your identity before we act.
Data retention and security
We keep information only as long as we need it. Server logs are retained briefly for security and diagnostics. Email correspondence is kept for as long as needed to handle your enquiry and to keep a record of it. Analytics data is retained according to the retention settings of the analytics service.
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information, including serving the Site over HTTPS. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International transfers
We are based in the United States and our service providers are largely US-based, so information collected through the Site is processed in the United States. If you access the Site from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed there, where data-protection law may differ from that of your country. Where required, our providers rely on appropriate safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Site or the law changes. The "last updated" date at the top will always reflect the current version. Material changes will be flagged on this page. Continuing to use the Site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
